Breathing in for four seconds and out for four seconds can activate your vagus nerve in under a minute. In our last session, we focused on your nightly reset—finding that center point at the end of the day. This technique is the most direct path to that center. So let’s begin. Find a comfortable position.
Seated or lying down. It doesn’t matter. Just allow your body to feel supported. Close your eyes if that feels right. Bring your awareness to your breath. Without changing anything. Just noticing. The gentle rise and fall. Now, we’ll begin a simple count. It’s called Sama Vritti. Equal Breathing.
We’ll breathe in for four… hold for four… breathe out for four… and hold for four. Let all the air out of your lungs. Gently. And now. Breathe in… two… three… four. Hold the breath… two… three… four. Breathe out… two… three… four. Hold the breath out… two… three… four. Again. Inhale… two… three… four.
Hold… two… three… four. Exhale… two… three… four. Hold… two… three… four. Continue on your own now. Keeping that same, steady rhythm. A box of breath. Smooth and even. If your mind wanders, that’s okay. Just come back to the count. Back to the feeling of the breath moving through you. The mind follows the breath.
Notice the stillness in the pauses. Especially the pause at the bottom of the exhale. The quiet space before the new beginning. If a count of four feels easy… you can try extending it. Maybe to five. Or six. The length doesn’t matter. Only the balance. Inhale matches hold. Hold matches exhale.
Find the rhythm that calms YOUR system. Just for a few more moments. Now… gently let go of the counting. Let your breath return to its natural rhythm. But stay here. In the stillness. Notice how you feel. The shift. The space you’ve created. You are reset. You are recharged. You can return to this place any time you need it.
