The molecule nitric oxide helps your blood vessels relax. You can release it inside your own nasal passages, just by humming. In our last session, we found balance with the ocean sound of Ujjayi breath. Today, we use a sound you create yourself. So let’s begin. Find a comfortable, upright seat.
On a cushion, or in a chair. Whatever allows your spine to be long. Allow your eyes to close. Bring your awareness to your breath. No need to change it yet. Just notice the air moving in… and out. The practice today is called Humming Bee Breath. We will inhale deeply through the nose.
And on the exhale, we will create a low, steady humming sound. Like a bumblebee. To deepen the experience, we’ll use our hands. Bring your hands up to your face. Let your thumbs gently close the entrance to your ears. Not pressing hard. Just enough to seal out the outside world.
Now, rest your index fingers lightly on your closed eyelids. Your middle fingers beside your nose. Your other fingers resting on your cheeks and jaw. A gentle touch. This posture turns your awareness completely inward. Take a slow, deep breath in through your nose. Filling the belly, the ribs, the chest.
And begin to hum on the exhale. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Again. Deep breath in. Long, low hum out. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Feel the vibration in your skull. In your teeth and jaw. Three more rounds. At your own pace. Inhale fully. And hum. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Let the vibration loosen any tension in your face.
Your throat. Your chest. Another deep breath in. And release. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Follow the sound all the way to the end of the breath. One last time. The deepest inhale of your day. And let it go with a hum. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Allowing the vibration to be a wave of calm. After your final hum, slowly lower your hands to your lap.
Palms facing up. Keep your eyes closed. Sit in the quiet. Notice the echo. The stillness that follows the sound. The space you’ve created inside. This peace is yours. It was always there. The hum just cleared the way. The quiet is still vibrating. Carry it with you.
