The human brain processes over sixty thousand thoughts each day. Last night, we practiced letting go of the day to invite restful ease. Tonight, we’ll do something a little different. Instead of letting every thought drift away… we will gently choose just one to hold for a moment.
So find your way into a comfortable position. Whatever feels most restful for you right now. Allowing your body to feel supported by the bed… the pillows. Noticing the weight of the blanket over you. The gentle quiet of the room around you. There is nothing else you need to do.
Nowhere else you need to be. You are here. And now… simply bring your awareness to your breath. Noticing the gentle rise and fall of your chest… or your belly. There’s no need to change it. No need to breathe in any special way. Just allowing the breath to be as it is.
In… and out. Each breath, a soft rhythm… carrying you into this quiet space. Now, from this place of quiet stillness… I invite you to gently cast your mind back over your day. We are not looking for anything big or dramatic. We are searching for something small.
A tiny moment of warmth… or contentment. Perhaps it was a kind word someone shared. The taste of your morning coffee or tea. The feeling of sunshine on your skin for just a moment. Maybe it was a song you heard… or a moment of unexpected quiet in a busy day. There is no pressure to find anything.
Simply allow your mind to drift gently through the hours… and see what it lands on. A small moment of ease. A simple, quiet pleasure. And when you find one… just one small thing… allow yourself to rest there. Don’t try to analyze it or understand it. Simply bring the memory into your awareness.
See it in your mind’s eye. What did it feel like in your body in that moment? A softening in the shoulders, perhaps. A small, gentle smile. A feeling of simple warmth in your chest. Stay with that feeling for a few breaths. Savoring it. Allowing the gentle echo of that gratitude to fill you.
This small moment was a part of your day. It is a part of you. And now… you can gently let the memory itself go. Just like a feather floating away on the breeze. You don’t need to hold onto the details anymore. Simply allow the feeling it gave you to remain. A soft, warm glow of contentment.
This gentle peace is yours to rest in. There is nothing left to do now but drift. Allowing the rhythm of your breath to carry you toward sleep. Rest now… in this quiet gratitude.
