The human foot has twenty-six bones, thirty-three joints, and more than one hundred muscles, tendons, and ligaments. In our last session, Admin, we worked on releasing the day’s thoughts. Tonight, we’ll invite that same sense of release directly into the body, beginning where it meets the ground. So find a comfortable position.
Lying down, if that feels right for you. Allowing your arms to rest by your sides. Your legs to be uncrossed. There is nothing for you to do now. Nowhere to be. Simply arrive here, in this moment. And begin by taking a slow, soft breath in through the nose. And a long, gentle sigh out. Letting the day go with the breath.
One more time. Breathing in. And breathing out. Now, bring your awareness all the way down to your feet. Just noticing them. The tips of your toes. The soles of your feet. The weight of your heels. Without needing to change anything, simply invite a sense of softness here. Allowing any tension held in the arches or ankles to simply… dissolve.
This feeling of softness now travels upward. Into your lower legs. Your calves and your shins. Feeling them become heavy. Rested. The awareness moves into your knees. Softening the front of the knees, and the space behind the knees. And now into the large muscles of your upper legs. Your thighs. Feeling their weight. Their connection to the surface beneath you.
Allowing them to be fully supported. Letting go of the need to hold on. Now, bring your attention to your hips, your pelvis, and your lower back. This is an area where we can carry so much from the day. On your next exhale, just imagine this entire area softening. Releasing. Your awareness drifts up into your stomach.
Allowing the belly to be soft. It moves into your chest, and across your upper back and shoulder blades. Feeling the gentle, rhythmic movement of your breath. The chest rising and falling. Effortlessly. Let this wave of release now flow down from your shoulders, into your arms. Through your upper arms. Past your elbows.
Down through your forearms. All the way to your wrists, and your hands. Notice your palms. The back of your hands. And each finger. One by one. Perhaps your fingers want to curl slightly as they relax completely. Just allowing. Finally, bring your awareness to your neck and your throat. Inviting softness here. Letting the shoulders feel heavy, moving away from your ears.
Allow your jaw to un-clench. Letting there be a small space between your teeth. Your tongue can rest gently in your mouth. The small muscles around your eyes can soften. The space between your eyebrows can widen. And this sense of ease travels up, across your forehead, and over your entire scalp. For just a moment, Admin, rest here.
Aware of the whole body. Breathing quietly. Held. And at peace. There is nothing left to do but rest.
