Your body has over six hundred muscles. Last time, we found stillness one breath at a time. Tonight, we invite that same stillness into each of those muscles, one by one. So find your way into a comfortable position. Lying down in your bed. Allowing your arms and legs to rest wherever they feel most natural.
And let’s begin with a soft breath in through the nose. And a long, slow sigh out through the mouth. Letting the day go. One more time. A full breath in. And a gentle release out. Now, bring your awareness all the way down to your feet. To your toes. On your next breath in, gently curl your toes, just enough to feel a little tension.
Hold it there. Noticing the feeling of tightness. And as you breathe out… let them go completely. Feel the wave of softness that follows. Now, let that awareness travel up into your calves and your shins. Gently point your toes, creating a small amount of tension in your lower legs.
Just holding it. And now… release. Letting your feet fall heavy. Feeling the muscles soften. Moving now into your thighs. Gently squeeze the large muscles in your upper legs. As if you are pressing your legs down into the mattress. Hold that gentle tension. And with your next exhale… let it all melt away.
A feeling of deep heaviness spreading through your legs. Bring your attention now to your hands. Gently curl them into soft fists. Noticing the tension in your hands and your forearms. And now… just open your hands. Let the fingers uncurl naturally. Feeling the warmth and release.
Now, draw that attention up into your shoulders. On an inhale, let your shoulders drift up towards your ears. Holding all the day's weight right there. And on the exhale… let them drop. Let them fall away from your ears. Creating space in your neck. Finally, bring your awareness to your face.
Gently clench your jaw. Squeeze your eyes shut. Furrow your brow. Holding that tension for just a moment. And then… release. Let the jaw go slack. Allow the tiny muscles around your eyes to soften. Let your forehead become smooth. Now, just for a moment… feel your whole body.
From the tips of your toes to the crown of your head. Heavy. Soft. And still. There is nothing you need to do. Nothing to hold onto. Your only task now is to rest. To allow the gentle rhythm of your own breath to carry you into sleep. There is nothing left to do.
