In the last twenty-four hours, you have taken around twenty-three thousand breaths. In our last time together, we spoke of melting away the day's tension. Tonight, we continue that release, one quiet breath at a time. So let’s begin. Find a position that feels comfortable for you. Lying on your back, if that feels right.
Allowing your arms to rest by your sides, palms facing up as a sign of receiving. Or down, for a feeling of being grounded. There is nothing to do now. Nowhere to be. Simply arrive, right here. Let’s take a slow breath in through the nose. And as you exhale, a gentle sigh out through the mouth.
Letting the day go with that breath. One more time. A full breath in. And a slow, complete breath out. Allowing your breathing to return to its own natural rhythm. Noticing the gentle rise and fall of your chest. Or your belly. Now, bring your awareness all the way down. Down to your feet.
Simply noticing your toes. The soles of your feet. Your heels resting against the surface beneath you. There is no need to change anything. Just feeling what is there. And on your next exhale, perhaps an invitation for your feet to feel a little heavier. A little more relaxed. Gently, allow that awareness to travel up into your ankles.
Your lower legs. Your shins and your calves. Just noticing the sensation of contact. The feeling of stillness. With each breath out, a chance to let go. Releasing any holding. The awareness now moves into your knees. And up into your thighs. The large muscles of your upper legs. These muscles that have carried you through the day.
Giving them permission now to rest. To be heavy. To be soft. Bringing your attention now to your hips. Your pelvis. And your lower back. This is a place where we often carry tension without even knowing. See if you can breathe into this space. And as you breathe out, imagine it softening.
Spreading. Releasing into the support beneath you. Your awareness drifts up your spine. Through your mid-back. Your upper back. Feeling your stomach rise and fall with each quiet breath. Noticing your chest, and the gentle, steady beat of your heart within it. Feel your shoulders. Let them be heavy.
Let them drop away from your ears. And allow this feeling of softness to flow down through your arms. Past your elbows. Through your forearms. All the way to your wrists, your hands, and the tips of your fingers. Your arms, completely at rest. Finally, bring your awareness to your neck and your throat.
Allowing them to be soft and open. Noticing your jaw. See if you can create a little space between your teeth. Letting your tongue rest in your mouth. Softening the small muscles around your eyes. And the space between your eyebrows. Your forehead… smooth and clear. For just a moment, feel your entire body at once.
Heavy. Calm. And still. This is a choice. The choice to be present. The choice to be kind to yourself. There is nothing more to do. Your only work now is to rest.
