A study from the University of Manchester found that just fifteen minutes of gratitude before bed helped people sleep longer and worry less. Last time, we focused on letting go of the day's tension. Tonight, we’ll explore what we can invite into that quiet space we create.

So find your way into a comfortable position for rest. Lying down in your bed. Allowing your body to feel supported. Heavy. And simply begin here. With the breath. Noticing the gentle rise of the in-breath. And the soft release of the out-breath. No need to change anything at all.

Just feeling the rhythm that is already here. In. And out. Allowing the eyes to close if they haven't already. Letting the darkness be a comfort. A soft blanket. Now, bring your awareness to the points of contact. Where your body meets the surface beneath you. The back of your head.

The shoulders. The length of your back. With each exhale, just allowing yourself to sink a little deeper. Letting go. And now, we invite in a simple practice of gratitude. There is no need to search for big, monumental things. Instead, we are looking for the small moments.

The quiet kindnesses of the day. Let your mind drift back over the hours that have passed. And bring to mind just ONE small thing that brought a moment of ease, or warmth, or peace. Maybe it was the taste of your first cup of coffee. A kind word from a stranger. The feeling of sunlight on your skin.

Or a song you heard. Just hold that one small moment in your awareness. See it. Feel it. And in the quiet of your mind, simply say… thank you. Feeling that warmth spread from your chest. Now, let that moment dissolve. And find a second one. Another small, simple thing.

Something you might have overlooked. A moment of quiet between tasks. The comfort of your own home. A message from a friend. Bring this second memory forward. Let yourself receive its gift again. And offer your quiet thanks. Allowing the feeling of gratitude to deepen.

And finally. A third moment. The smallest one yet. A texture. A scent. A color. The simple, sensory experience of being alive today. Find it. Hold it gently. And let the feeling of gratitude fill you. Now, let the memories fade. Leaving only the feeling behind. A gentle warmth in the center of your being.

This feeling is your anchor for the night. Let your breath carry this warmth to every part of your body. Down to your toes. And out to your fingertips. You have nothing else to do. Nowhere else to be. Gratitude is the final, quiet thought that holds the night.
