The average person has over six thousand thoughts each day. Last night, we practiced the gentle release of the day itself. Tonight, we continue that journey inward… to the constant stream of thoughts that fill our minds. So let’s begin. Find a position that feels comfortable and supported. Allowing your eyes to gently close whenever you feel ready.
Begin by noticing the weight of your body. The feeling of contact with the surface beneath you. Feeling held. Allow your shoulders to soften… dropping away from your ears. Release any tension you might be holding in your jaw. And soften the space between your eyebrows. Now, bring your awareness to the rhythm of your own breath.
Just noticing the gentle rise on the inhale. And the gentle fall on the exhale. There is nothing you need to do. Your body knows exactly how to breathe. As you rest here, thoughts will naturally arise. That is what the mind does. Instead of fighting them, or following them… we can simply watch them.
Imagine you are sitting by a gently flowing stream. The stream is your awareness… clear and calm. Each thought that appears is like a single leaf, floating on the water's surface. When a thought comes into your mind… a worry… a memory… a plan… simply notice it. Acknowledge it without judgment.
And then gently place it on a leaf… and watch as the stream carries it away… out of sight. Another thought may come. Notice it. Place it on a leaf. And let it float by. If your mind wanders away, that’s okay. That is also just a thought. Gently, kindly, guide your attention back to the stream… and to your breath.
There is nothing else to do. And nowhere else to be.
