Wherever you are right now... just arrive. Feel the surface beneath you... holding you. The air on your skin. Take one slow breath in... and let it all the way out. No need to change anything. Just noticing. Your brain is a prediction machine, generating thousands of guesses about the future every single minute. In our last time together, we talked about finding a sense of lightness. Today, we'll look at the source of the weight we so often carry... and it begins right there, with that beautiful, relentless prediction machine between your ears.

It’s not just reacting to the world; it’s constantly forecasting it, trying to know what’s coming next to keep you safe. Here’s what that feels like in your own body. It feels like a subtle tension in the shoulders. A jaw that’s just a little too tight. It’s the quiet, constant hum of ‘what if’. What if I miss the deadline? What if they are upset with me? What if this feeling doesn't pass? Each of these is a prediction. A story about a future that hasn’t happened yet... and may never happen. Your brain is just trying to solve a puzzle that isn't on the table.

And the energy it takes... the sheer effort of trying to control the uncontrollable... that is the weight. That is the opposite of lightness. So we can’t just tell the brain to stop. That’s not how it works. It would be like telling your heart not to beat. It’s doing what it was designed to do. But here is the turn. Here is the practice. You don’t have to believe every prediction it makes. That’s it. That’s the entire shift. When the thought arises — “I’m going to mess this up” — you can learn to see it for what it is.

Ah. A prediction. A guess. My brain is forecasting again. Thank you, brain, for trying to keep me safe. And then... you can gently turn your attention back to what is ACTUALLY here. This breath. This single, simple breath. The feeling of your hands. The sound in the room. This is not about ignoring reality or pretending challenges don't exist. It is the opposite. It is about returning to what is REAL, instead of living in the thousand imaginary futures your mind creates. This is an act of gentle trust. Trusting that when the future does arrive, you will have what you need to meet it.

Because you always have. So for the rest of your day, maybe you can carry this one quiet intention. When the forecast of worry begins... just notice it. See it for the prediction that it is. And then come back. Come back to the feeling of your feet on the ground. Your only work is to be right here, in this moment. The next one will be met when it arrives.
