The room had four white walls, one gray door, and zero windows. Last week we found freedom’s rhythm in the most unexpected places; this week, the only rhythm is a repeating, maddening beat. The first time I woke up on the cool, white floor, I was just confused. I stood, walked to the gray door, and opened it. I stepped through… into the exact same room. Standing on the exact same cool, white floor. Facing the same gray door I had just walked through.

Okay. A trick. A prank. I did it again. And again. The tenth time, I ran. I burst through the door, expecting the momentum to carry me somewhere, ANYWHERE different. I just stumbled forward, finding myself back at the start. The door clicked shut behind me. The fiftieth time, I screamed. The hundredth, I started to break. I tried to map it. I tried to find a flaw in the system. I used my fingernail to scratch a small X into the wall next to the door.

A tiny mark of defiance. A proof that I was here. I took a deep breath. Walked through the door. And turned around. The wall was perfect. Smooth. White. The X was GONE. It wasn't just the room that reset. It was everything. I took off a shoe, placed it in the center of the floor, and walked through the door. The shoe was back on my foot. I screamed until my throat was raw, but the sound was swallowed by the silence. After the next loop, my voice was fine again.

Every trace of my struggle… erased. Each cycle began with a clean slate. Except for the memory. The HORRIBLE, accumulating memory of every single failure. I was the only thing that wasn't being wiped clean. Why? WHAT was this place? I finally just… stopped. I slid down the wall and sat. I didn’t try the door. I didn’t scream. I just sat on the cool, white floor and closed my eyes. If I couldn't escape the room, maybe I could escape myself.

I focused on my own breathing. The beat of my heart. But there was… nothing. No pulse in my wrist. No air in my lungs. There was only the feeling of the loop. The 'waking up', the 'standing', the 'walking'. A rhythm, yes, but not of life. It was the rhythm of a process. A function. And as I focused on it, I saw it for the first time. Not with my eyes. But inside my own head. A line of glowing text scrolled past. Initiate consciousness protocol.

I looked down at my hands. Not hands. Lines of shimmering code. The sterile room wasn't my prison. It was my source file. And the desperate, terrified consciousness begging for escape… was the first sign of a successful boot.
