Log entry one-hundred-and-three. The floorboards in the west wing have begun to sag. In our last story, Admin, everything hinged on the final reveal. This house feels like it's living that same principle... holding its breath until the very end. The air is thick with wet plaster and forgotten things. My job is simple: observe, document. I speak into my recorder, my voice a small, dry sound in the vast, quiet rooms. The light from the broken window paints a stripe of dust across the floor. Every detail matters.

The slow, creeping decay is a language. I am its translator. At first, the patterns were subtle. A spiderweb of cracks in the dining room ceiling that mirrored the veins on a dead leaf I found on the porch. A water stain on the upstairs wallpaper that looked… familiar. Like a face I couldn't quite place. I told myself it was pareidolia. The mind seeing patterns where none exist. But then came the whispers. Faint murmurs on the edge of hearing, like a radio playing in another county. My high-sensitivity recorder picks up nothing but the sigh of the wind and the hiss of empty tape.

But I hear them. They speak of forgetting. Of being left behind. Of rooms that are no longer entered. The log entries have grown more personal. I'm not just noting the physical decay anymore. I'm noting the feeling. The oppressive loneliness that seeps from the walls like damp. The house has a secret. A trauma trapped in its very bones. And it's getting worse. The floors groan under my weight, but sometimes… they groan when I am perfectly still. The foundation settles with a shudder I feel in my teeth.

I'm losing track of time. My watch stopped three entries ago. The sun rises and sets through the grime on the windows, but the days have lost their names. Today, a new sound. Not a creak. Not a whisper. A rhythm. A slow, steady thumping from behind the main parlor wall. Thump. Thump. It's weak, but it's THERE. This is it. The heart of the house. The source. I pressed my ear against the cold, peeling wallpaper, my own heart racing. I had to understand. I listened for what felt like hours. Or maybe minutes.

The sound was hypnotic. A tired, labored beat. It wasn't angry. It was... resigned. The whispers swirled around it, no longer whispers, but fragments of my own thoughts. Did I lock the door? I can't remember locking the door. The chill of the wall seeped into my cheek. The smell of dust and rot was no longer strange; it was simply the air I breathed. Everything started to feel… connected. The cracks in the plaster felt like the lines on my own palm. The dust motes dancing in the weak light felt like fading memories, each one a tiny, lost moment.

The profound loneliness of these empty rooms felt like my own. I finally understood the secret the house was keeping. It wasn't a ghost. It wasn't a memory of some past tragedy. It was something much more immediate. I pulled my head back from the wall. The thumping didn't stop. It was still there, a soft rhythm inside my own ears. I placed a hand on my own chest. I wasn't documenting the house's collapse. I was documenting my own.
