A soft light pulsed under the bed. It wasn't a scary sound, like the one brave Leo discovered came from his wobbly nightstand. This was quiet. This was… a glow. Sam’s eyes were wide open in the dark. The light breathed in, and it breathed out. A gentle, shimmering blue. It painted the bottoms of the dust bunnies a beautiful sapphire color. Sam pulled the blanket up to their chin. The room was perfectly still. But that light was definitely NOT. What could it be? Maybe it was a forgotten flashlight. But flashlights don’t breathe.

Maybe it was a toy left on. But Sam’s toys were all tucked away. Except for one. Bronty the dinosaur sat on the floor, his long neck pointed toward the mystery. An idea sparked in Sam’s mind. A brave idea. A clever idea. A slightly wobbly idea. Slowly, quietly, Sam reached one arm out of the warm bed. Cold air tickled their fingers. They grabbed Bronty by his plastic tail. Using the dinosaur like a deep-sea submarine, Sam lowered his long neck down… down… down… over the side of the bed. Bronty’s little head disappeared into the darkness beneath.

And then… something happened. The blue light under the bed suddenly danced. It zipped from one side to the other. It swirled around Bronty’s head like a friendly lasso. A tiny, tinkling sound, like miniature bells, floated up. It sounded like a giggle. Sam’s heart wasn’t pounding with fear anymore. It was thumping with CURIOSITY. The light wasn't scary. It was… playful. Sam took a deep breath. Held it. And then, leaning waaaay over the edge… Sam peeked. Under the bed, nestled between a lost sock and a comic book, was a little ball of light.

It was no bigger than a tennis ball, made of swirling, sparkling energy. It had no face, no arms, no legs. But as Sam watched, two little sparks blinked like eyes. It wobbled happily. It had been playing with Bronty’s nose. It wasn’t a monster AT ALL. It was a Glimmer. The little Glimmer floated up just a bit, hovering right in front of Sam’s face. It smelled like fresh rain and clean sheets. It spun in a slow, happy circle. It seemed to be waiting. Waiting for Sam to make the next move. Sam smiled. This wasn’t a night for being scared.

This was a night for making a new friend. Sam gently reached out a finger. The Glimmer bobbed forward and touched it. It felt warm and buzzed with a happy, gentle energy, like a purring kitten made of starlight. They played a silent game of tag, Sam’s finger chasing the bobbing, weaving light around the dark space under the bed. Finally, the Glimmer gave a little pulse that felt like a yawn. It floated back to its spot beside the lost sock and began to glow softly, breathing in and out. Ready for sleep. Sam climbed back into bed, pulling the covers up to their nose.

The space under the bed wasn't a scary, unknown place anymore. It was just where a friend was sleeping. And knowing that made the whole room feel extra cozy. Extra safe. And very, very magical.
