The moon is not actually white, but a dark, dark gray. It’s the very same moon that watched over Leo and his Gentle Glow last week, and tonight, it was peeking right into Alex’s window. Everything was quiet. Everything was still. Except for the pebble. It sat right on the windowsill, where there was definitely NO pebble before. It was smooth and round and gray in the moonlight… until it wasn't. It began to glow, a soft, silvery-blue light pulsing like a tiny, sleepy heart. And then… it started to hum. A low, gentle, thrumming sound, like a secret song only the night could hear.

Alex pulled the blankets up to their nose. What could it be? A tiny spaceship? A dragon’s lost tooth? An eyeball from a very, very small, and very, very polite monster? Probably not. But the hum was real. It seemed to pull at the air in the room, making everything feel… buzzy. Alex’s feet slipped out from under the warm covers. The floorboards gave a tiny, sleepy creak. Creeeeak. One step. Another. Alex crept closer, heart thumping a little drumbeat. Thump-thump. Thump-thump. The hum didn't get louder, but it felt… closer.

It felt like it was waiting. Alex looked from the pebble to the cozy safety of the bed, and back again. What should a brave explorer do? Alex took a deep breath, and reached out one, single, curious finger. The air felt warm around the little stone. Closer… closer… TOUCH. The moment Alex’s finger touched the pebble, the humming stopped. The glow flashed ONCE, a bright, happy silver, and then softened into a gentle, steady light. And instead of a hum, Alex felt something else. A feeling. It was a feeling of… thank you.

It felt like a warm hug, but for your thoughts. This wasn't a monster's eyeball at all. This was a Dream Stone. It had been humming because it was looking for a new dream to take care of. By being brave enough to touch it, Alex had told the stone it was finally home. Alex picked up the pebble. It felt warm and smooth in their palm, its light a steady, comforting glow. Alex padded back to bed, placing the Dream Stone on the nightstand. It wasn’t humming anymore. It was listening. Listening for all of Alex’s sleepy wishes, ready to turn them into the most wonderful adventures until morning.

And Alex learned that sometimes, the things that seem a little spooky are just new friends you haven't said hello to yet. The little stone glowed softly, a tiny moon for a brave dreamer, guarding the night.
