The water wiggled, just a little. It slipped from between two smooth, grey stones that had been its whole world. It felt a tiny, brave shiver. Just below the stones, it tickled a patch of moss near a tiny green shoot. A tender little thing, just like our friend Sprout we met not long ago. Ripples gave it a gentle nudge, a little gift of water for the journey ahead. This tiny wiggle of water was named Ripples. And tonight, Ripples felt a pull.

A quiet wish to see what was beyond its cool, clear pool. The stars above seemed to be winking. Go on, they whispered. See the world. So Ripples took a deep, watery breath. And with a soft whoosh, it slipped over the edge of the spring and began its adventure. At first, the journey was a game. Ripples tumbled down the mountainside, a ribbon of liquid silver. It went plink-plonk over a carpet of tiny, colorful pebbles. It slid down a long, mossy rock that felt like a velvet slide.

Wheee! It giggled in little splashes, feeling fizzy and excited. It was all so NEW. Then the mountain softened into a wide, quiet meadow. The grass was as tall as Ripples was wide. It tickled its edges as it flowed past. The air smelled sweet, like clover and damp earth. Flowers, their petals all tucked in for the night, dreamed of morning sun. Ripples flowed gently, carefully. It didn't want to wake anyone. Shhhhh. It passed a fawn, curled up like a little cinnamon bun in the tall grass.

Its fur was spotted with what looked like painted drops of moonlight. Ripples flowed so close it could have counted its eyelashes. The fawn let out a tiny sigh in its sleep. Further on, a wise old owl blinked from a low branch. For just a second, Ripples saw its own starlit reflection in the owl's big, dark eye. The owl gave a slow, sleepy blink, and then looked away. Ripples felt like a quiet secret, flowing through a sleeping world.

Then, the moon rose higher. Oh, it was a grand, silver moon, full and bright. It poured its light down like milk, turning the whole meadow into a magical ballroom. Ripples paused in a small, still pool to look up. And the moon looked down. The light didn't just sit on the water. It danced. It broke into a thousand tiny, shimmering diamonds. It made Ripples feel like it was wearing a gown of stars. It wasn't just a tiny stream anymore.

It was a mirror for the entire night sky. It was PART of the magic. As it moved on, feeling full of moonlight, it found a patch of thirsty wildflowers. Their pretty heads were drooping low, their colors faded in the gloom. They looked so tired. Ripples felt a pang in its watery heart. It slowed its journey, forgetting all about rushing downhill. It spread itself out, pooling around their delicate roots, offering a long, cool drink.

It felt the parched earth soak it in. A strange warmth spread through its cool water. A warmth that came not from the sun, but from GIVING. Slowly, it watched as the flowers seemed to straighten up. They lifted their heads toward the moon, as if to say thank you. And in that moment, Ripples understood. Its great adventure wasn't about finding some far-off ocean. Its adventure was happening right NOW. Every pebble it polished.

Every sleeping fawn it didn't disturb. Every thirsty flower it helped. That was its real purpose. That was its greatest JOY. It wasn't just traveling through the world. It was helping the world grow. Feeling peaceful and content, Ripples flowed on. Its own little song was softer now, a gentle hum. Soon, it met a wider, slower stream, and it joined right in, like holding a friendly hand. They flowed together, no longer rushing.

Just drifting. Resting under the watchful, smiling moon. Just like you, my dear. It's time to drift now. Time to rest. And let your own sweet dreams begin. Goodnight.
