A little owl’s wings make almost no sound when they fly. The same beautiful moon that lit the path for Dot the Ladybug was shining down tonight on a tiny owl named Pip. He floated through the cool night air, a soft, feathery whisper against the stars. Pip loved to fly at night. The world was quiet and sleepy. But tonight… tonight was different. He heard something new. It was a soft sound, a gentle hum, like a sleepy bumblebee singing to itself.
It wasn't loud, but it was steady, and it seemed to pull him forward. He tilted his head, his big, round eyes blinking in the darkness. What could that be? He followed the sound, gliding silently between the tall, dark shapes of the trees in the Whispering Woods. As he got closer, he saw something else. A light. It was a soft, gentle green glow, pulsing slowly from the forest floor. It pulsed in time with the humming sound.
Pip felt a little flutter in his tummy. It wasn't a scared flutter… more of a curious one. He had never seen glowing, humming moss before. He circled once, then twice, his silent wings carrying him just above the strange and beautiful sight. The light wasn't bright like the moon. It was cozy, like a little lantern left on just for him. And the humming wasn't a scary noise. It sounded like a lullaby. Pip landed on a branch just above the glowing patch.
He could see it clearly now. It was a bed of the softest-looking moss, and every inch of it was lit from within by a warm, emerald light. He hopped from his branch down to the ground, landing on his little feet with a soft bounce. He took a hesitant step closer… and then another. He reached out a tiny talon and gently touched the edge of the moss. It was warm. And he could feel the humming through his foot, a gentle, sleepy vibration that traveled all the way up to his feathers.
It wasn't scary at all. It was wonderful. It was a secret song, sung by the forest itself. Pip sat down right there, next to the glowing, humming moss. He tucked his head under his wing, feeling the gentle light on his back and the soft lullaby all around him. The woods weren't just dark and quiet. They were full of gentle magic and sleepy songs. And Pip knew, tucked in the heart of the Whispering Woods, there was always a song waiting just for him.
