Lumi and the Feather's Dawn: A Gentle City Rooftop Adventure

A single, downy feather let go from the wing of a sleeping robin. It was just past dawn, the same time our friend Lumi the Dawn Sprite begins to paint the dewdrops with morning light. But this little feather wasn't starting its day in the forest. It was high, high up on a quiet city rooftop, and a gentle breath of wind had just come to visit. The wind whispered, "Ready for an adventure?" And the little feather... simply... let GO. At first, it tumbled.

End over end, a little dizzy. But then it found its balance. It stretched out its soft little spine and caught the breeze. Whoosh! Up it went, higher than the rooftops. The whole city was a quiet, sleeping giant below. It saw the first light of the sun touch the top of a tall glass building, making it glow like a secret crystal. It floated over a bakery, and the warm, sweet smell of morning bread drifted up to say hello. Ohhh, what a lovely smell.

A little puff of wind sent it dancing sideways, and it peeked into a window where a fluffy orange cat was doing a BIG morning stretch. The feather wiggled a little, as if to say "me too!" It drifted lower now, past the windows and down toward the street. The world looked so different from down here. It saw a tiny green sprout, no bigger than an eyelash, pushing its way up through a crack in the sidewalk. So brave. So STRONG. It swooped over a puddle left from a little nighttime rain, and for a moment, the feather saw itself.

It gave a soft little sigh, and the air became very still. The journey across the sky was over. Now, the journey down began. The feather began to fall. Not fast, oh no. It was a slow, gentle spiral. Around... and around... and around. Like a ballerina taking a final, graceful bow. It saw the world turn slowly...

a green park bench... a sleepy pigeon... the dark bark of a tree... around... and around. It drifted past the branches of the tree, missing every single twig. It floated just over the back of the park bench. And then, with the softest little whisper of a touch, it landed. It landed right inside a small, red, woolen mitten. Someone had left it behind. The mitten was empty and soft and warm from the morning sun. The perfect resting place. The feather snuggled down into the cozy wool.

Its big adventure was done. And just like that little feather, you've had a big day full of your own adventures. And now it's time to find your own soft, warm place to rest. To snuggle down... and be perfectly safe... until morning comes again. Goodnight, little one.
