A single drop of dew can hold the reflection of a thousand stars. The world is full of tiny adventures, isn't it? Just last night, we heard all about Squeaky the squirrel and his search for the Whispering Acorn. Tonight, our adventure is much smaller, and much slower. Under the light of a full moon, a little snail named Silas began to wake up. He peeked out from his smooth, swirly shell.
The air was cool and still. The whole garden was quiet and washed in silver light. Silas took a slow, deep breath of the sweet night air. It was time for a little journey. He was resting on a long, green leaf. It felt like a big, wide road just for him. He began to move, gliding slowly, slowly forward. The leaf was covered in tiny drops of dew. Each one sparkled like a diamond under the moon.
Silas felt the cool moisture on his underside. It was a lovely feeling. He moved so quietly, he could almost hear the stars humming. A little way along the leaf, he saw something amazing. It was a spider’s web, strung from one edge of the leaf to the other. In the moonlight, the thin threads looked like they were spun from pure silver. Silas paused, admiring the beautiful, delicate net.
He made a wide, slow circle around it, being careful not to disturb its sleeping maker. A bit further on, he came across a sleeping ladybug. She was tucked into a tiny fold in the leaf. Her red shell was like a little polished jewel with seven black dots. She was so still. Silas watched her for a moment, then continued on his silent path. He was not in a hurry. The night was for noticing small wonders.
The moon was now a bright circle, high in the dark sky. Silas had traveled all the way from one end of the leaf to the other. It was a very long journey for a very small snail. And now, he felt a happy, gentle tiredness settle over him. His exploration was done for the night. It was time to find a cozy spot to rest. He saw the perfect place. The very tip of the leaf had curled over, creating a tiny green roof.
It was just the right size for a sleepy snail. Silas tucked himself underneath it. It felt safe and snug. He pulled most of his soft body into his shell, leaving just his head peeking out. He looked up at the sky. The stars twinkled like friendly eyes, watching over him. The whole world was peaceful and dreaming. And there, in his cozy green bed, Silas the snail closed his eyes and drifted into a sweet, gentle sleep.
