Stella was the smallest star in the whole wide, dark sky. She twinkled just above the very same moonlit burrow where we last saw Huddle the Hedgehog, all curled up and dreaming his happy dreams. Every night, Stella would look down at the big, quiet, sleeping world and wonder. What did it sound like? What did it feel like? One night, her curiosity became a feeling too big to hold inside. So... she let go. She untied herself from the darkness and began to float, ever so gently, down, down, down toward the sleeping earth.

She was a tiny spark on a very big adventure. She drifted past the tops of the tallest pine trees. They smelled like sleepy sunshine and deep, dark earth. Down below, a field of daisies were all tucked in for the night. Their white faces glowed like a carpet of tiny moons. A soft whoosh of air made her dance and spin. It was a little owlet, practicing its silent flight from one branch to another. The owlet landed nearby and blinked its big, round, curious eyes at the tiny, floating light.

"Hoo," it whispered, a sound as soft as a feather. In owl-language, this means, "Well, hello there, little wonder." Stella didn't have a voice, but she could shine. She pulsed her light back, a gentle, happy shimmer that meant, "Hello to you, too." She drifted a little closer, so close she could feel the air move with the owlet’s soft breath. For just a moment, her star-glow mixed with the owlet's downy feathers.

It felt like warmth. It felt like sharing a secret without a single word. But in that moment, touching the little owlet, Stella felt something new. It wasn't just warmth. It was a dream. A tiny, sleepy dream of flying high above the trees. She pulled back, amazed. She could feel the dream! She looked at the daisies and felt their dreams of morning sun. She looked at the forest and felt its deep, slow dream of growing.

The whole world was dreaming! And she, a tiny star, could feel it all. A gentle tug pulled at her from far, far above. It was time to go home. She began to float back up, but she wasn't the same. As she rose, little sparks of her light drifted from her, like dandelion seeds in the wind. They floated down, down, down... and settled on the sleeping world. One landed on the owlet, giving it a dream of soaring with the stars.

Another landed on a little rabbit, giving it a dream of a field full of crunchy carrots. Stella took her place back in the sky. But her light was different now. It was softer. Warmer. She wasn't just a point of light anymore. She was a keeper of secrets, a weaver of wishes, her light now a soft blanket made of all the world's beautiful, sleeping dreams.
