The human body has a natural resonant frequency. It’s zero-point-one hertz. Last time, with Nadi Shodhana, we worked on balancing the left and right sides of your body. Today, we find a different kind of balance — a balance in time. This frequency is the rhythm your body uses to bring your heart, lungs, and brain into perfect sync. It is the most direct path to calm you have.

So let’s find it together. Find your seat. Let your spine be tall but not rigid. Shoulders drop away from your ears. Close your eyes if that feels right for you. For a moment, just notice your breath as it is. No need to change it. Feel the air enter your nostrils. Feel your belly or chest expand. And then the release as you exhale. Simply arriving here.

In this moment. With this breath. That frequency, zero-point-one hertz, translates into a specific pace of breathing. About six breaths per minute. Which means each breath takes about ten seconds. Five seconds to inhale, and five seconds to exhale. This is called Coherent Breathing. When you breathe at this rhythm, something remarkable happens. Your heart rate variability — the natural rhythm of your heart — smooths out.

Your blood pressure regulates. Your brainwaves settle. It’s not a mental trick. It’s physiology. You are actively tuning your nervous system away from stress and toward rest. We’re going to practice this now. I will count you through it. The key is not to force it. The breath should be smooth. Gentle. If five seconds feels like too much, shorten it slightly.

The goal is ease, not strain. Let’s begin. First, a full exhale. Let all the air out. Get empty. Now, a gentle inhale for… two… three… four… five. And exhale… two… three… four… five. Inhale… two… three… four… five. Exhale… two… three… four… five. Keep going. Smooth inhale… feeling your lungs fill from the bottom up. And a long, slow exhale… letting everything soften.

Inhale… two… three… four… five. Exhale… two… three… four… five. Feel the rhythm begin to take over. Your body knows this pace. You’re just remembering. Let the count become a gentle wave you’re riding. Inhale… two… three… four… five. Exhale… two… three… four… five. One more with the count. Inhale… And exhale… releasing completely. Now, for the next few breaths, continue on your own.

Keep that same rhythm. Five seconds in. Five seconds out. I’ll be quiet. Notice the shift. The quiet that’s settled in. Maybe you feel a tingling in your hands, or a warmth in your chest. This is coherence. This is the feeling of your systems aligning. A deep rest that you created yourself. Now, let the counting go. Allow your breath to return to its own natural, easy rhythm.

No effort at all. Just sit for a moment in the stillness you’ve cultivated. This state is always available to you. Five minutes. Ten seconds per breath. That’s all it takes to find your way back to center. Your breath is your anchor. It’s always right here.
