A single night of good sleep can help reset your brain’s response to stress. Last night we looked to the sky, watching meteors release their light as they fell. Tonight, we turn that same awareness inward, finding a similar release within ourselves. So let’s begin. Find a position that feels comfortable and supported.
Lying down, if that feels right for you. Allowing your arms to rest by your sides. And when you are ready, gently closing your eyes. Let’s take three slow breaths together. Breathing in deeply through the nose. And out through the mouth with a soft sigh. Another deep breath in.
And a slow, full breath out. Letting go. One last time. Breathing in calm. And breathing out the day. Now, bring your awareness all the way down. Down to your feet. Simply noticing your toes. Feeling the space between them. Without needing to change anything, just allow them to be soft.
Let this awareness travel into the soles of your feet. Noticing the points of contact. The heels resting heavy. A feeling of warmth, of release, spreading through your ankles. This gentle attention now moves into your lower legs. Your calves and your shins. Just noticing what is there.
Any sensation at all. Allowing any tightness to soften. To melt away. The awareness flows upward into your knees and your thighs. Feeling the weight of your legs. Heavy and completely supported. Letting go of the need to hold on. Simply allowing them to rest. Now, notice your hips.
Your pelvis. An area where we often hold tension from the day. Just breathe into this space. And with the out-breath, invite a sense of release. A deep letting go. Bring your attention to your stomach and your lower back. Allowing the belly to be soft. Feeling the gentle rise and fall with each breath.
Noticing your back as it rests, fully supported. This awareness now spreads across your chest and your upper back. And flows all the way down your arms. Past your elbows. Your forearms. To your wrists and your hands. Feel your fingers. Perhaps they are curled slightly. Allow them to be soft, at ease.
Now, notice your shoulders. Let them feel heavy. Dropping away from your ears. Releasing any burdens they might be carrying. Attention travels up into your neck and your throat. A space of gentleness. Allow your jaw to be soft. Your teeth slightly apart. Letting the tongue rest in the mouth.
Feel the small muscles around your eyes soften. Your cheeks. Your forehead becoming smooth and clear. And finally, bring awareness to the very top of your head. The crown of your head. For a moment, just rest here. Feeling your whole body at once. Heavy, soft, and calm. A sense of wholeness.
A sense of peace. There is nothing to do. Nowhere to be. Just this moment of quiet rest. Your body knows how to rest. All you have to do is allow it.
