Every night, your brain washes itself clean. Last night, in our gentle nightfall meditation, we invited the day to release. Tonight, we listen to what remains. Find a comfortable position lying down. Let your arms rest by your sides. Let your feet fall open naturally. There is nothing to do. Nowhere to go. Just for a moment, bring your awareness to your breath.
Notice the gentle rise of your belly on the inhale. And the soft fall on the exhale. In. And out. Your body holds the story of your day. Tonight, we will gently listen to that story. Without judgment. Without needing to change a thing. Bring your attention all the way down. Down to your feet. To the very tips of your toes. Can you feel them?
You might notice warmth, or coolness. The light pressure of a blanket. Or maybe you feel nothing at all. And that's perfectly okay. Whatever you notice is right. With your next exhale, imagine a wave of softness washing over your feet. Releasing them from any holding. Now, allow that awareness to travel up into your ankles.
Your calves. And your shins. Simply noticing what is here. The weight of your legs resting on the surface beneath you. If you find any tension, just notice it. And with your next exhale, invite it to soften. To let go. The awareness now flows into your knees. And up into your thighs. These strong muscles that carried you through your day.
Thank them. And allow them to be heavy. To be fully supported. Your attention now gathers in your hips. Your pelvis. And your lower back. This is a place where we often carry so much. Just notice the sensations here. On your next breath out, imagine this entire area becoming soft. Releasing its grip. Let your belly be soft.
Allowing the breath to move freely. Bring your awareness to your chest. To your heart space. Feeling the gentle rhythm of your heart. And now, the shoulders. Notice if they are creeping up toward your ears. On your next exhale, invite them to drop. To melt down and away. This wave of gentle attention now flows down your arms.
Past your elbows. Into your forearms, your hands, and each of your fingers. Feel the life in your hands. And then let them rest. Completely. Let your awareness move into your neck and your throat. Inviting any tightness here to dissolve. Soften your jaw. Let your teeth part slightly. Allow your tongue to rest in your mouth.
Soften the muscles around your eyes. And the space between your eyebrows. Let your forehead be smooth. Finally, bring your awareness to the very top of your head. A feeling of quiet stillness. For a moment, feel your whole body at once. From the tips of your toes to the crown of your head. Breathing. Resting. Held. There is nothing left to do.
Only rest.
