The human body has more than six hundred muscles. In our last time together, we focused on letting go to find a restful sleep. Tonight, we’ll invite that same release into every one of those muscles, one by one. Find a position that feels comfortable for you now. Lying on your back, or perhaps on your side. Allow your arms and legs to rest wherever they fall.

Let your eyes gently close. There is nothing you need to do. Nowhere you need to be. Just here. Begin by noticing your breath. Not changing it. Just feeling the gentle rise of your chest or belly on the inhale. And the soft release on the exhale. Each breath, a quiet rhythm. A wave washing in… and washing out. Now, bring your awareness to the very top of your head.

The scalp. Feel any sensation here. Maybe a tingling, or a warmth. With your next exhale, imagine this area softening. Releasing. Let that softness travel down into your forehead. Smoothing out any lines of the day. Allow your eyebrows to feel heavy. Let your eyelids rest gently. Notice the tiny muscles around your eyes letting go. Bring your attention to your jaw.

This is a place we often hold tension without knowing. See if you can create a little space between your top and bottom teeth. Let your tongue rest in your mouth. Allow this gentle release to flow down into your neck and your shoulders. Feel the weight of your shoulders sinking down… toward the bed, toward the earth. Letting go of anything they have been carrying.

This wave of softness now moves down your arms. Past your elbows… into your forearms… all the way to your hands. Notice your hands. Are they open, or closed? Feel the air on your skin. Perhaps a warmth in your palms… or a tingling in your fingertips. Your arms are heavy and relaxed. Now, bring your awareness to your chest and your upper back. Feel the gentle movement here as you breathe.

With each inhale, a sense of space. With each exhale, a deeper letting go. Let your attention drift down to your stomach. Your belly. Allowing it to be soft. Releasing any holding, any tightness. Let your breath be deep and easy here. Feel the muscles of your lower back releasing as well. Sinking into the surface beneath you. Notice your hips. The weight of your body settling.

Heavy. Grounded. Supported. Let this feeling of release travel down through your legs. Through your thighs… past your knees… and into your calves. Your legs have carried you through the day. Now it is their time to rest completely. Finally, bring your awareness all the way down to your feet. Notice your ankles. The heels resting on the surface. The soles of your feet.

And each one of your ten toes. Imagine a final wave of warmth and softness washing over your feet, letting go of the last bit of effort. Now, for just a moment, feel your entire body at once. From the top of your head to the tips of your toes. Held. Heavy. And still. Breathing as one whole being. Nothing to do. Nothing to fix. Simply being. The day is complete.

There is nothing left to do. Only to be. Rest now.
