Pip’s favorite stuffed bear, Barnaby, now had a twin. Just last week, we saw Pip save the Rainbow River from disappearing entirely. But this... this was the opposite problem. Things weren't vanishing. They were doubling! Pip woke up and the world felt... crowded. Two alarm clocks were buzzing on the nightstand. Two blue toothbrushes sat in the bathroom cup. And downstairs, two identical bowls of cereal were getting soggy on the table. But the weirdest part? Two Barnaby bears, sitting side-by-side on the couch, staring with the exact same button eyes. This was not right.
At all. And it wasn't just Pip’s house. Glimmerbrook was overflowing! The town square had two clock towers, ringing their bells just seconds apart, a confusing mess of sound. The bakery windows were starting to crack as twice the number of cupcakes pushed against the glass. And best of all——two Mayor Mildews were shouting at each other about who was the REAL mayor! It was hilarious for a minute. Then it got scary. The whole town was groaning under the weight of all the extra stuff. Where was it all coming from? Pip had to figure it out, and fast. The legend of the Echoing Cave flashed in Pip’s mind.
A place that was said to copy anything that entered. But could it copy an entire town? Pip raced into the Whispering Woods and found the cave. Inside, a giant, glowing crystal pulsed in the center. And in front of it stood... another Pip. An Echo-Pip! This copy was holding a small, shiny mirror, pointing it right at the giant crystal. It was a reflection of a reflection. The Echo-Pip was using the mirror to bounce the whole world back at the crystal, creating a copy... of the copy! The doubling would never, ever stop! Pip knew you couldn’t fight an echo.
So Pip didn't shout. Pip didn’t run. Pip just... sat down. And pulled out the original Barnaby bear. Then, Pip started to hum a little song. A quiet, gentle tune that Barnaby loved. The Echo-Pip paused. It tilted its head, listening. It loved the song, too. Slowly, so slowly, the Echo-Pip lowered its mirror to hear better. And just like that—the loop was broken. The glowing stopped. The Echo-Pip gave a tiny, shimmering wave and then faded away completely. Back in town, the second clock tower vanished in a puff of silver dust. The extra cupcakes disappeared.
Glimmerbrook could finally take a deep breath, with just one of everything, exactly where it belonged.
