Luma's Cozy Quest: A Bedtime Adventure in the Garden

the fern frond dipped with a gentle sway luma the little glowworm held on tight it felt like sailing on a quiet green sea it reminded luma of the stories we tell like the one about twinkle and glimmer finding their light together in the big dark sky but luma wasn't looking for another star luma was on a quest a very important very cozy quest to find the softest bed in the whole wide garden the old bed under the big oak root had become a bit lumpy a bit scratchy it was time for a new one so luma began the journey

the little light on luma's tail glowed a warm and gentle green it lit the path one tiny step at a time first luma found a patch of dry leaves they looked promising crunch crinkle oh my they were much too noisy for a sleepy glowworm and a little bit tickly no this would not do at all luma wiggled onward the green light bobbing through the dark next a beautiful broad leaf glistened nearby it was smooth and cool luma crawled onto it expecting a perfect place to rest but a single drop of leftover rain was sitting right in the middle

plink it wiggled and jiggled luma slid right into it oh it was cold and wet and much too slippery luma shivered a tiny shiver and scrambled off the leaf shaking a little droplet from the tip of a tail definitely not the right bed feeling a little discouraged luma paused by a tall stone just then a very very slow and wise looking snail came gliding by the snail's shell was a beautiful spiral of brown and cream hello little light the snail said in a voice as slow as molasses in winter you seem to be in a hurry

i am looking for the softest bed luma explained but everything is too crunchy or too wet the snail blinked its long eye stalks ah it hummed the softest beds are not found in a hurry they are found near the whispering creek follow the sound of the water look for where the moonlight touches the greenest green luma's little light brightened oh thank you luma listened and there it was a gentle burbling sound just past the tall flowers following the snail's advice luma headed toward the sound the air grew cooler and smelled of damp earth and sweet night blooming jasmine and then luma saw it it was a bank of moss right

by the edge of the creek the moon full and bright shone down on it it looked like a blanket of green velvet it was the greenest green luma had ever seen it was perfect luma crawled onto the moss oh it was better than perfect it was softer than a whisper it was warmer than a hug it molded perfectly around luma's tiny body each little fiber was like a tiny pillow luma did a little happy wiggle sinking into the deep soft green the gentle sound of the creek was the most wonderful lullaby

the search had been long but the snail was right the best beds aren't found in a hurry they're found at the end of a gentle adventure luma's little light began to dim not because it was going out but because it was content it pulsed softly a slow sleepy rhythm green then dark green and dark the whole world was soft and quiet and ready for dreams just like you
