A single drop of dew, perfectly round, slipped from the edge of a great green lily pad. It touched the water with a tiny, silent plink. The moon was so bright, a perfect night for our friend Milo the Moon Moth to be dancing among the cattails. And in that moment, when the dewdrop met the pond, a tiny circle appeared on the water. That was Ripples. A brand new story, just beginning. Ripples felt a gentle nudge, a push from the very heart of the pond.

A soft breeze, maybe, or a secret current from deep below. It was a call to adventure. The far shore looked so distant, a mysterious dark line under the stars. So Ripples went. First, it passed a mossy log. On the log sat a great, green frog, his throat puffing up like a little balloon. He let out a deep, sleepy brrr-UMPH. The sound vibrated through the water, and Ripples shivered and danced in reply. The frog blinked one big, golden eye, as if to say, "Safe travels, little one." A little further on, a silver fish swam up from the dark water below.

It paused right beneath Ripples, its scales catching the moonlight that shone right through the little circle of water. For a moment, Ripples wasn't just on the pond, but a window into a secret, shimmering world. Then, with a quick flick of its tail, the fish was gone. Above, a water strider, like a tiny dancer on points, skated right across Ripples' surface. Its feet barely made a dimple. It was like being tickled by a whisper.

And all this time, Ripples just kept going, a little ring of water on a very big journey. At last, with a soft, sighing shhhhush, Ripples reached the tall reeds at the edge of the pond. The journey was over. But the shore… well, it was just cool, dark mud. And the tangled roots of sleeping flowers. Ripples bumped gently against a stalk of cattail and grew still. Was that all there was? Was the whole adventure just… to get to the mud?

A feeling of disappointment, as small as a raindrop, settled in. And in that perfect stillness, Ripples stopped looking forward. It just… was. And for the very first time, it saw what it held inside. Oh. It wasn't mud and reeds at all. It was the MOON. A perfect, glowing circle of silver light, floating right in the center of Ripples' own heart. And all around the moon, like scattered diamonds on dark velvet, were the stars.

Dozens of them. Hundreds. Ripples had been so focused on the journey, on getting to the other side. It never noticed it was carrying the whole, beautiful night sky with it all along. The adventure wasn't about reaching the shore. It was about becoming a mirror. About holding all that wonder inside you. And as Ripples slowly, gently, finally faded back into the calm, quiet water of the pond, it left the reflection of the stars behind, shimmering on the surface… a gift for the sleepy frog and the silver fish and the whole, wide, peaceful night.
