Ferdinand the frog landed on a brand new lily pad. It looked like all the others, shiny and green. But this one was different. As his little webbed feet touched its surface, he felt a strange tickle. It was a vibration. A soft, low hum that seemed to come from the heart of the leaf itself. The sound was a sleepy one, a gentle lullaby that made his eyelids feel heavy. Ferdinand was a very curious frog. And a humming lily pad was the most curious thing he had ever, ever found.

He tilted his head, listening. Where was it coming from? The lily pad gave a gentle bob. Then another. It was moving. Slowly, it began to drift away from the muddy bank and out into the open water of the pond. Ferdinand wasn't scared. He was too curious for that. He sat perfectly still, letting the magical leaf be his boat. The pond was quiet at this hour. He floated past a family of water striders, all asleep on the surface.

He saw the silver flash of a minnow darting deep below. Tall reeds whispered to each other as he passed, their voices like soft sighs. Tiny fireflies blinked on and off in the darkness, like a thousand little stars had come down to visit the pond. The humming grew a little stronger. Hmmmmmm. Hmmmmmm. It was the sound of deep sleep and happy dreams. Ferdinand looked all around. The song seemed to be coming from everywhere at once.

He looked up at the big, round moon in the sky. It was so bright tonight. It looked like a giant pearl, watching over him. The lily pad steered him toward the very center of the pond. The water here was perfectly still, like a dark mirror. And in that mirror was the moon’s bright, shimmering reflection. His lily pad stopped right in the middle of the watery moon. The humming was loudest here. It wrapped around him like a warm blanket.

Ferdinand peered over the edge, expecting to find the source. Maybe a tiny snail with a giant voice? Or a chorus of glowing water sprites? But he saw nothing. Just the beautiful, silent light of the moon, captured in the water below. And in that quiet moment, Ferdinand understood. The song wasn't coming from just one thing. It was coming from everything. The lily pad was humming with the magic of the pond. The water was humming with the light of the moon.

The fireflies were humming with their tiny, blinking lights. The whole world, it seemed, was singing a lullaby just for him. A deep, happy sigh escaped the little frog. His adventure was over. His question was answered. He felt so cozy, and so very sleepy. Ferdinand yawned a great big froggy yawn. He curled his small green body into a ball on his magical, humming boat. And as the pond sang its gentle, moonlit song, he closed his eyes and drifted into the sweetest dream.
