Luna the Moonbeam's Nighttime Journey

The light from the moon takes one point three seconds to reach Earth. Just last night, we floated along with our friend Puffy the Steam Wisp. Tonight, another kind of magic is making a journey, one that starts much, much farther away. Her name was Luna, and she was a moonbeam, soft and silver. She began her journey as a tiny whisper of light, slipping away from the quiet, sleeping face of the moon. She didn’t fall, oh no.

She drifted. She tumbled gently through the deep, velvety dark, which felt like the softest blanket in the universe. The stars winked at her as she passed, their light a little sharper, a little brighter than her own gentle glow. She wasn't scared. She felt... purposeful. Her journey was long, but she was never lonely. Below her, the world was a patchwork quilt of sleeping towns and dark forests. The town lights blinked like fallen stars, yellow and warm.

She saw the top of a great, old pine tree, its needles frosted with starlight. She danced for a moment on the back of a cloud, a big, fluffy pillow floating in the night sky. From her perch, she peeked down and saw a little red fox, trotting silently along a hidden path. The fox looked up, just for a second, and Luna gave a tiny shimmer, a secret hello. She glided over a winding river that looked like a ribbon of spilled ink, but where she touched it, it sparkled with silver.

She had a very important job, you see. The moon had whispered a dream to her before she left, a story of floating on a paper boat down a lazy, sparkling river. Her job was to find one particular window, and deliver it SAFE and sound. And then, she saw it. A little house, tucked beside a sleepy oak tree. And in that house, one window was waiting just for her. She drifted closer, quieter than a moth's wing.

She hovered right at the glass, peering in. Inside, she saw the gentle rise and fall of a small blanket, a little hill in the dim light. The room was full of shadows, but they weren't scary shadows. They were cozy, sleepy shadows, hugging the corners of the room. Luna knew THIS was the place. This was where the dream belonged. Sooo she slipped right through the glass. It didn't make a sound. She was light, after all.

Inside, she unfurled. Her soft glow spread across the room, but it didn't wake the child. It was a quieter light than that. It was the kind of light that dreams are MADE of. It touched a pile of colorful blocks, a teddy bear with one button eye, and a drawing of a bright yellow sun taped to the wall. She tiptoed over to the bed and gently, so VERY gently, she unfolded the dream. She laid it on the pillow, right beside the sleeping child’s cheek.

A tiny smile appeared on the child's face, a secret shared only with the moonbeam. Luna's work was done. She gathered herself back into a single, soft beam and rested on the windowsill, watching over the peaceful sleeper. The paper boat was now sailing gently on a river of starlight, right inside a beautiful dream. And all through the house, everything was quiet, bathed in the soft, silver light of a moonbeam who had traveled all that way, just for you.
