The short answer

Blinkist is a curated catalogue: professionally condensed non-fiction titles, chosen and produced in advance. Lissin has no catalogue in that sense — you describe what you want to hear about and it is made, which is a better fit for subjects nobody has published a summary of.

How to choose

  1. Notice which problem you have

    If the book you want condensed is a well-known business title, a curated summary service has already made a good one and you should use it. If what you want is ‘the last two years of argument about X’, no catalogue contains that, and it has to be generated.

  2. Point it at your own material

    Lissin’s stronger case is documents you already have and nobody else will ever summarise: your industry’s filings, your own reading pile, papers in your field.

  3. Set it to recur

    A weekly show on a subject you are trying to stay current in is closer to a subscription than to a book summary, and it is where a generated system has the advantage over a produced catalogue.

Questions

Can Lissin summarise a specific book?
Not from the book — Lissin does not hold a library of published titles, and uploading a copyrighted book you own is your call and your responsibility, not a workflow this describes. A show about a book’s ideas, researched from public discussion of it, is a different and weaker thing than a licensed summary.
Is the quality comparable to a human-written summary?
For a well-known book, a professionally produced summary is better and you should use one. Generated shows earn their place where no such summary exists.
What is actually in Lissin’s library then?
Original shows made on the platform rather than summaries of published work. You can browse and listen to all of them without an account.

What this does not do

There is no licensed catalogue of book summaries and there will not be one. If condensed non-fiction titles are the whole reason you were looking, Lissin does not replace that.
