Summary services — Shortform, getAbstract, Headway and the rest — condense a fixed catalogue of published books, edited by people. Lissin generates a show on a subject you describe or a document you upload. The catalogue wins on the titles it holds and cannot help with anything outside them.
How to choose
Check the catalogue first
If the specific title you want is in one, use it. A carefully edited human summary of a book somebody read properly beats a generated one, and it is not close.
Use generation for the gaps
Trade press, regulatory filings, a field’s recent papers, your own documents, subjects too narrow or too new to have been catalogued. This is where there is nothing to buy and something to make.
Make it recur if the subject moves
Summary catalogues are static by nature — a book is finished. A subject is not, and a recurring show researched on each run is the shape that fits a moving one.

- Is a generated summary as reliable as an edited one?
- No. An editor who read the book is a quality bar generation does not clear, and you should assume a generated show can be confidently wrong about a detail. It is a way in, not a substitute.
- Why would I use this instead?
- Because most of what you need to understand has never been in anybody’s catalogue, and never will be.
- Can I hear an example before signing up for anything?
- Yes — every show in the library plays in the browser with no account and no app.
What this does not do
No licensed book content, no editorial review of individual episodes, and no guarantee that a specific claim in an episode is right. Those are real gaps against a curated service and they are not going away.
