You are choosing between a better reading of your document and a different artefact made from it.
How to choose
Separate voice quality from editorial work
Both produce synthetic speech and both are past the point where the voice is the problem. The difference is upstream: one narrates your text, the other writes new text. Judging them on voice alone misses what you are actually picking.
Use Lissin when the source is not listenable as-is
A spreadsheet, a slide deck, six unread newsletters, four papers on one problem. None of these read aloud usefully in their original order, which is precisely when generating a script beats narrating one.
Ask for a recurring show, not a file

Questions
- Is Lissin’s audio quality comparable?
- It is generated speech from the same generation of models, with multi-voice shows and mixed background beds. If the single thing you are optimising for is the most convincing single-narrator voice, judge that yourself on a sample rather than taking either company’s word for it.
- Can I pick the voice?
- Lissin shows carry a voice and tone you specify when you describe the show, rather than a voice picker applied to arbitrary text. It is chosen per show, not per paragraph.
- Which is better for a full-length book?
- A narration tool. A book is already written to be read start to finish, so rewriting it is a loss, and audiobook-shaped tools handle length better.
What this does not do
Lissin does not do voice cloning, and it will not narrate arbitrary pasted text as an audiobook. A show is written before it is spoken, which is the feature and also the constraint.
