A podcast app plays shows made for an audience. Lissin makes shows for one person. Why it is not a replacement for your podcast player, and what it does instead.

The short answer

Lissin is not a podcast player and does not replace one: it will not subscribe to an RSS feed or play the shows you already follow. It makes shows that do not exist yet, for one listener, on subjects a general audience would never sustain a podcast about.

How to choose

  1. Keep your podcast app

    The shows you follow are made by people, and nothing generated replaces a host you like. This is additive — a second source of audio for the gaps a subscription list does not cover.

  2. Ask for what no one would publish

    The niche is the point. A weekly show on the regulatory corner your job depends on, on a hobby with four hundred people in it, on the reading your own children are doing. There is no audience for these and so there is no podcast.

  3. Listen where you already do

    Shows play in the iPhone app with offline downloads and a synchronised transcript, and any show shares as a web link that plays without an account.

Questions

Can I add my podcast subscriptions?
No. Lissin has no feed reader and does not play third-party podcasts.
Can I publish a Lissin show as a podcast feed?
Shows share as a web link anyone can open and play. There is no RSS export for submitting one to podcast directories.
Then why would I install another audio app?
Because a subscription list covers what enough people wanted to hear about. Most of what you personally need to keep up with did not clear that bar.

What this does not do

No RSS, no directory, no third-party playback, no cross-device sync with your podcast player. If you were looking for a better podcast client, this is not one.
