The oldest known rock on Earth is over four billion years old. A rock can stay in one place for a very, very long time. It reminds me of our friend Barnaby the Button, Admin, who also felt a little stuck before his big adventure under the twilight blue coat. Glimmer the pebble felt much the same. It was a tiny piece of quartz, smooth and pale, resting on the bed of a clear, cool stream. Every day, it watched the world drift by. A fallen leaf. A spinning seed. A water strider skating on the surface.

“Oh,” Glimmer would say to the water, “I wish I could see what’s beyond the bend.” The current was gentle, but not strong enough to move a pebble, even a small one. So Glimmer waited. And dreamed. One afternoon, a new shadow fell across the water. Two delicate legs, then a soft, brown nose dipped down to drink. It was a young fawn, quiet and graceful. Glimmer felt a gentle nudge. Then another. It had been scooped up, caught in the soft, velvety fur of the fawn’s cheek. And just like that, the journey began.

The world was no longer just water and stone. It was the sway of a steady walk. The scent of pine needles in the air. Glimmer peeked out and saw tall, tall trees reaching for a bright blue sky. It saw dappled sunlight dancing on ferns. It was higher up than it had EVER been. The stream became a silver ribbon far below. This was the world. And it was bigger and greener than Glimmer could have possibly imagined. The fawn walked for a long time, until the sun began to dip low. It entered a small clearing, a place carpeted in the most beautiful, deep green moss.

The fawn lowered its head and rubbed its cheek against a large, ancient stone covered in that same mossy blanket. And Glimmer… tumbled free. It rolled gently, not with a clatter, but with a soft thump, landing in the middle of the moss. The world went silent. The rushing sound of the stream was gone. Instead, there was a deep, soft quiet. Glimmer snuggled down. The moss was like a plush, green bed, holding it perfectly. It wasn't cold and wet like the stream; it was cool and damp and smelled of earth and evening.

Above, through the tiny green fronds of the moss, Glimmer could see a single star begin to twinkle. It felt so safe. So peaceful. The adventure had been wonderful. But this… — this was home for the night. The dream wasn't just about seeing the world. It was about finding a new, quiet place to rest. And there in its soft, green bed, Glimmer the pebble closed its tiny, sleepy eyes, a little speck of light in a universe of moss.
