The oldest living rose bush is over one thousand years old. It has seen so many seasons, just like our little friend Pip the seed saw the whole wide world on his quiet journey home. Tonight, our story is about someone just as patient, and just as brave. Her name is Rosie, and she is a tiny rosebud, tucked away on a long, graceful stem. She is wrapped tightly in a little green coat of leaves, a perfect, precious secret. In the morning, she feels the cool tickle of dew on her head.
She listens to the sleepy chirps of the waking birds and the low hum of the earth as it warms. She is safe. She is cozy. And she is waiting. Rosie spends her days watching the gentle adventure of the garden. The tall, proud sunflowers follow the sun as if it were their best friend. The daisies dance together whenever the breeze invites them. She sees the fuzzy bumblebees, their legs dusted with yellow powder, buzzing from flower to flower.
They seem to be sharing the most wonderful secrets. Rosie would take a deep breath, but she had no scent to share yet. She would try to peek out, but her green coat was still buttoned tight. Oh, how she longed to open up. To show the world the beautiful, soft pink color she was keeping safe inside. To share her own sweet perfume with the bees. The waiting felt like a long, quiet song. One evening, after the sun had painted the clouds in shades of orange and purple, the moon rose.
It was a big, silver pearl in the dark velvet sky. Its light was so soft, it felt like a gentle blanket being laid over the whole garden. Just then, a little ladybug with seven perfect spots landed gently on a leaf beside her. "You seem a little restless, little bud," the ladybug chirped, her voice like tiny bells. "I just want to bloom SO much," Rosie sighed, a sound softer than a whisper. The ladybug crawled a little closer. "Growing isn't a race, little one," she said kindly.
"It's a dance. Right now, you are gathering everything you need. You are drinking the sunlight. You are breathing in the moonlight. You are saving up all the garden's magic for your own special day." And just like that, Rosie understood. She wasn't just waiting anymore. She was PREPARING. She was on her OWN gentle adventure. She felt the day's warmth stored like honey deep inside her heart. She felt the moon's cool blessing on her sleepy head.
Rosie snuggled deeper into her leafy cradle, feeling cozier and safer than ever before. The garden grew quiet. The crickets began their lullaby. And as she drifted into a sweet, peaceful sleep, she dreamed of the beautiful, slow, wonderful dance of becoming.
